The secret of strength

THE TEMPERING PROCESS IS OUR TRADEMARK

Since 1945,Duralex is the pioneer of tempered glass technology, a process in which we are specialists. Our factory inLa Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin was the first in the world to produce tempered glass tableware.

Thanks to our continuous investments and our commitment to quality, Duralex achieves a level of excellence that enables the success of the brand throughout the world. Our company is unquestionablyrecognized as the leader in tempered glass.

WHAT IS TEMPERED GLASS?

What makes Duralex glass so durable is the tempering process. It consists of sudden cooling by ventilation on the entire glass product which has previously been brought to a temperature of approximately 700°C. This treatment creates controlled stresses in the glass which improve most of its physical qualities: resistance to mechanical stress and thermal shock (sudden change in temperature). This makes Duralex glass at least 2.5 times more resistant to mechanical stress than an annealed glass product. It resists thermal shock of at least 130°C.

Norme EN 1183

Duralex follows the European standard relating to thermal shock, one of the strictest standards, and even exceeds its requirements. Duralex products are resistant to thermal shock of at least 130°C, and up to 200°C for our cooking range.

WHY IS TEMPERING SO IMPORTANT?

Duralex's quenching process improves resistance to mechanical stress and thermal shock. It offers safety, practicality and durability by increasing the lifespan of the products.

Tempered glass is safer, stronger and therefore more durable than annealed glass. Tempering guarantees better resistance of the entire glass in addition to securing it in the event of breakage (it completely fragments into small pieces).

Our commitment to quality and our regular checks guarantee stable quenching.
